The “ALSO XII” Story

When the “Lady K” was no longer able to keep up with the demands of ALSO Island we decided to build a new, larger, more efficient and faster supply boat. A catamaran hull was chosen for its shallow draft, efficiency and speed. We got everything except the speed. We chose to do an unconventional engine installation. The problem with that is that we do not get the propeller deep enough in the water except when loaded. We do not have the right propeller and the engine may not be putting out full power. The result is that we are not getting the 10 knots we expected. The ALSO XII carries a lot of payload: Fish, Ice, Fuel, Store Goods and passengers on a regular basis to Labasa.
